The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has filed 757 lawsuits against people who they alleged illegally shared music online. The vast majority of the lawsuits, 693, are against people who used peer-to-peer file-sharing networks such as eDonkey and LimeWire to exchange music files. Of the remaining lawsuits, 64 are against students at 17 different universities who used the Abilene Network and a peer-to-peer file sharing program called i2hub.

The i2hub program is designed for use in sharing files over the Abilene Network. The Abilene Network is a high speed network in use by 207 U.S. universities. It was designed by Internet2 to provide a high speed alternative for researchers and other educators to share information. The Abilene Network allows for very high speed connections, many times faster than DSL or Cable connections. The RIAA became a corporate member of Internet2 two weeks ago.

Over the past two years, the RIAA has filed more than 14,800 lawsuits against people accused of illegally sharing music online. Over 3,400 of these cases were settled for an average of between $4,000 to $5,000 each. Almost 500 of these lawsuits were against students using the Internet2 network.

Unclaimed inheritance from wills refers to property and cash which has been bequeathed to heirs from a person who has died. Each year billions of dollars in inheritance property goes unclaimed. The most common reasons heirs are not notified of inheritance assets stems from name and address changes.

The most common source of unclaimed inheritance from wills is life insurance proceeds. Estate executors contact life insurance companies to claim beneficiary benefits. Funeral homes provide death certificates to life insurance providers and benefits are paid to designated beneficiaries. If heirs or estate administrators are unaware the policy exists, life insurance providers have no way of knowing the policyholder has died.

Unless decedents have placed inheritance property inside a trust, their estate must undergo the probate process. Probate is required in all 50 states and is necessary to validate decedents’ last will, settle outstanding debts, and transfer inheritance assets to heirs. If decedents die without executing a will, a judge distributes inheritance property according to probate law.

During probate, the estate executor must attempt to locate missing heirs. This is usually addressed by placing Classified ads in local papers. If heirs cannot be found inheritance property is held by the state to give beneficiaries the opportunity to present entitlement claims.

Unclaimed inheritance from wills must be held for a specific timeframe before property is considered legally abandoned. Dormancy periods are established by each state and typically range between one and five years. Dormancy periods may vary depending on the type of inheritance property involved.

After dormancy periods expire, unclaimed inheritance from wills is transferred to government property trust accounts. This is referred to as ‘escheat.’ In 2009, more than $20 billion in unclaimed inheritance property was transferred to state escheat. Of that amount, less than $900 million was claimed by rightful heirs. The balance of escheat property remains in state trust accounts across the nation.

Some states hold escheat property indefinitely, while others place a specific timeframe for beneficiary claims. In the states of Indiana and Idaho, if property goes unclaimed beyond the escheat period it becomes property of the state and heirs can no longer lay claim to it. Therefore, it is important to check unclaimed money databases on a regular basis.

Most states have unclaimed money databases that can be searched at no-cost. In most states, unclaimed inheritance property is held through the Department of Revenue. To locate the DOR in your state, type in “department of revnue+your state” at your favorite search engine. Or, type in “unclaimed money+your state.”

There are several companies that charge a fee to help beneficiaries locate unclaimed money and inheritance property. These companies charge a finder’s fee which generally hovers between 30- and 40-percent of the total value of found property. For instance, if a company found $5,000 in unclaimed money their fee would range between $1500 and $2000.

One trusted source for locating unclaimed inheritance from will is FinalArrangementsNetwork.com. This website provides unclaimed property records for all 50 states and does not charge a fee for searching databases.

It never hurts to search online databases for unclaimed money. In addition to locating inheritance money, individuals can determine if they have money owed to them from closed checking or savings accounts, utility deposits, or life insurance policies.

Jack Diesing Sr., former chairman of the College World Series has died at the age of 92. His son announced the cause of death as complications from Parkinson’s disease. Diesing was chairman of the series from 1963 until 2002.

Diesing helped the tournament become one of the most successful college events in the United States. He became chairman in 1963 after his boss at Brandies department store died and passed on his duties to Diesing, one of which was the chairman role.

Before taking the role the series had only made a profit in five of its fourteen years. Under Diesing’s leadership the series never made a loss. During his time as chairman he also negotiated a long term contract with the NCAA and lengthened the series from 5 to 10 games.

Diesing’s son, Jack Diesing Jr., released a statement on his fathers death saying “My dad will be missed by a lot of people, but he won’t be forgotten”. He continued to say that his goals were to make “Omaha a better community” and to secure the “CWS to mantain its legacy”.

At the time of his death Diesing was still chairman emeritus of College World Series of Omaha Inc., a non-profit organization that helped with the coordination of the series.

New Zealand has relaxed the safety rules imposed on internal airlines in 2002, once more allowing passengers to carry pocket knives with blades less than 60mm long and knitting needles.

Other larger items remain banned, including ice-skates, pool cues, hockey sticks, skateboards, cricket bats and harpoons.

Other countries more at risk from terrorism such as the United States of America and Australia will maintain their stricter rules and continue to ban a range of small, sharp objects from their internal flights.

The airlines have also agreed to help return items seized from passengers before boarding.

How To Select Suitable Bike Carriers For Your Vehicle

by

Tony Bulic

Those who might have seen a advert or bought a bike carrier after seeing an online image will understandably be frustrated when they find that their hard-earned money was spent on something that turned out to be less than useful. So, here’s a guide on how to select suitable bike carriers for your vehicle. Read on.

We’ve researched and tested several dozens of bike racks all different brands and models. These included locally manufactured as well as imported (Chinese brands too). By research, we mean talking to our customers who have previously purchased bike carriers either from us or elsewhere. By testing we mean we’ve actually fitted the bike carrier onto our test 4×4 vehicle, loaded all types of bikes onto it including those with carbon fibre; and have driven the vehicle in city and on rough terrain.

Our conclusion: While there is no number one bike carrier, there certainly are contenders for the top spot. But individually, the suitable bike carrier for your vehicle is going to depend on your budget, the vehicle you are going to install it on, the type of bikes you intend to carry and lastly, personal priorities such as design and colour.

That said, we recommend the Rhino Rack 4 Bike Carrier Towball Mount (RBC008) with Rhino Rack Bike Bar Adapter (RBCA021). The Rhino towball mount attaches to the rear of your vehicle and can carry up to 4 bikes. Once attached, for each bike you wish to carry, you need a Rhino Rack Bike Bar Adapter (costs under $40) and can carry your bikes securely and safely. The total cost is under $300.

We and our customer found the Rhino Rack 4 Bike Carrier Towball Mount and the Rhino Rack Bike Bar Adapter to have the best overall value, and our customers agree they are a good choice for cyclists who want to easily transport their bikes on almost any car and are not particularly taken in by a lot of fancy advertisement of price options without the practicality or usefulness to match.

After testing the latest rooftop bike carriers, we recommend the Rola Roof Rack with Bicycle Carrier WB200 (8052003) as the best for outdoor enthusiast who prefer to hoist their bikes on the top of the vehicle and transport them that way.

If you own a station wagon or a hatch back car, the bike carrier that got top marks was the Rhino Rack Nexus Clip on 3 Bike Carrier (RBC049). It does not require a tow ball or hitch and easily attaches to the rear of your car. Once attached, you need the Rhino Rack Bike Bar Adapter (RBCA021) for each bike you need to transport. The Rhino Rack Nexus Clip on 3 Bike Carrier got top marks because it was easy to fix, sturdy enough to carry all three bikes securely and safely with no rattle.

British doctors have successfully transplanted a beating heart into the chest of a 58-year old man, the first operation of its kind in the United Kingdom.

The “trial” surgery was performed at Papworth Hospital just outside of London, England in Cambridge. The operation could be “equivalent if not superior” to the current transplanting methods, doctors said. The method has only been performed two other times, in Germany.

Usually hearts would be injected with potassium, which stopped the heart from beating, after which it would be covered with ice. This put the heart in “suspended animation” but gave doctors only a six-hour window to examine and transplant, doctors said.

“Normally the heart is in suspended animation but they still start to deteriorate,” said Professor Bruce Rosengard, head of the team of doctors who operated on the man.

The new method involves connecting the heart to a machine that pumps warm, oxygen enriched blood through the heart. The heart is able to keep beating with this method. The new process allows surgeons to look more closely and longer at the heart for any signs of damage. It also allows them to find a match for whoever may need it.

“Once hearts are hooked up to the device, which takes about 20 minutes, any deterioration is fully reversed. If we look at resuscitating hearts that are currently unusable, the number of transplants could be tripled or quadrupled,” added Rosengard. “The goal of this trial is to demonstrate that this is at least equivalent if not superior,” he added.

The director of transplants in the United Kingdom Chris Rudge also says that doctors are working on using the same new method with different human organs.

“In the longer term it is not just hearts that can be handled by such systems but other organs too, particularly the liver,” said Rudge.

The 58-year old man is doing “extremely well. At his exam one week after the operation, all his functions were absolutely normal,” Rosengard said.

At least 19 more operations are planned in the U.K. and in Germany.

Yesterday, Italian football club Juventus F.C. announced signing of Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuaín from their rival club S.S.C. Napoli. 28-year-old Higuaín signed a five-year contract with the Old Lady for an Italian record transfer fee of €90 million.

Debuting at the age of 17 in 2005, Higuaín has made 329 league appearances and scored 191 goals. He joined Spanish capital club Real Madrid in 2006. Spending six-and-half seasons with Los Blancos, Higuaín has won the La Liga title there.

Higuaín — nicknamed Pipita — joined Napoli in 2013. While there he broke the goal scoring record set by Gunnar Nordahl of the Italian Serie A, netting 36 goals in 35 appearances. He helped Napoli qualify for the UEFA Champions League as the club finished second in the league.

In remarks to Gazetta World following Higuaín’s agreement to the contract, AS Roma captain Francesco Totti said, “Footballers today are a bit like nomads[…] They follow money and not their hearts.” 40-year-old Totti has played 25 years for Roma, signing a one-year contract extention last month.

Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis said, “Some believe that talking of a betrayal is an exaggeration, but I think differently. In this move there is the full meaning of a betrayal, which includes ingratitude.” ((it))Italian language: ?C’è chi dice che parlare di tradimento sia esagerato, e invece io penso il contrario, perché in questa scelta c’è il senso pieno del tradimento, che comprende anche l’ingratitudine

Former Agrentine captain and Napoli legend Diego Maradona said, “This Higuain affair is hurting me because he is going to a direct rival like Juventus. But we cannot blame the player either. A player has a responsibility to himself and it is those fat cats of business that are grinning the most in this case. Nobody thinks of the fan.”

Higuaín has been assigned the number 9 jersey.

Building your own sunroom can save you quite a bit of money. There are some issues that you need to consider before purchasing your kit however.

Do it yourself sunroom kits are made offered by many different companies. Four seasons sunrooms are one sunroom that you can choose to build on your own. This will save you the labor cost of building your sunroom, which can often cut your cost by half. Do it yourself sunroom kits are packaged to help reduce your cost. They come in a variety of different designs and styles to allow you to find the right one for you. To get a quote for the four seasons sunroom kit that you want, you will have to have measurements for your particular sunroom, the materials that you want to use, and the windows that you want to use. What type of window do you want to choose? Will they open and close or have a special glazing? All of these choices need to be determined before you can get a true quote from the sunroom company. Possible Problems With Do It Yourself Sunroom Kits

Some common problems may occur when you are building a four seasons sunroom. The first problem may come in when the person that plans to build the sunroom is not quite up to the challenge of building a sunroom. It will take quite a bit of time and effort to build one of these four seasons sunrooms. If you are not positive that you can handle this challenge, then you may want to rethink building the sunroom yourself. You will not have a warranty on a sunroom that you build yourself, so you want to keep this fact in mind as well. Most of the time, the materials themselves are covered, but if you do not install them correctly and they malfunction, then it will most likely not be covered under the warranty. Check with your homeowner’s policy before you choose to build your own four seasons sunroom, because you may also not be covered if any accidents or other damage occurs to yourself your to someone else. This could end up causing you quite a bit of money in this instance.

Tropical Storm Irene, recently downgraded from a hurricane, passed over New York City at about 0900 local time (1300 UTC) today, bringing heavy rain and winds up to 65 miles per hour (96.6 km/h).

Flooding has been reported in New York City, where the Hudson River spilled over its banks into Manhattan and the East River briefly flooded. Floods were also reported in Brooklyn. Water was reported to be inside Battery Park and near the New York Mercantile Exchange. The water level of New York Harbor is as much as four feet higher than normal, with a predicted storm surge of up to eight feet.

Elsewhere in the northeast, suburbs of Philadelphia also flooded; mayor Michael Nutter described the scene in one area as “couches, furniture, all kinds of stuff floating down the street.”

Up to eleven people have been reported killed by the storm, five in North Carolina, three in Virginia and one each in Florida, Maryland and Connecticut. Some three million people evacuated from areas expected to be impacted by the storm, and another three million are reported to be without power.

Irene made landfall in North Carolina on Saturday, bringing up to fourteen inches (~36 cm) of rain and a storm surge measuring four feet in the Cheasapeake Bay with it. At about 0530 local time today, the storm made its second landfall as it passed over Little Egg Inlet, New Jersey.

According to New Jersey governor Chris Christie, the storm is expected to cause damage “in the billions of dollars, if not in the tens of billions of dollars.”
