Robert Gibbs, the former press secretary for the U.S. White House, has been said to be in talks with Facebook about possible future employment as a manager for the communications aspect of the company.

According to an anonymous source close to the company, Gibbs is being pressed to quickly accept the job, in which Mr. Gibbs may receive millions of dollars in both salary and initial stock options for a planned public offering of Facebook Inc. in 2012.

Both Facebook and Gibbs have declined to comment.

Mr. Gibbs, who has worked for the Obama administration for two years, left in February 2011, and was reportedly “relaxing” and had denied rumors that he was planning to campaign for chairman of the Democratic National Committee if Tim Kaine were to leave the committee to run for a position in the senate.

In recent months, Facebook has stepped up lobbying the US capital to communicate its public image to policy makers, and may use Gibbs for their public relations stratagem in the future.

Victoria Wyndham was one of the most seasoned and accomplished actresses in daytime soap opera television. She played Rachel Cory, the maven of Another World‘s fictional town, Bay City, from 1972 to 1999 when the show went off the air. Lazar Comanescu, the Romanian Foreign Affairs minister visited his Moldovan counterpart Andrei Stratan on Monday.

A series of meetings held by Comanescu with top Republic of Moldova officials was aimed at marking a period of ice-breaking in the bilateral relations, but all press statements were veiled in caution and only showed readiness to “fortify political, economic and social relations” between the two countries. Out of the meeting with Andrei Stratan, Lazar Comanescu also held talks with Moldovan Prime Minister Zinaida Grechany and President Vladimir Voronin.

“Romania is the only EU neighbour of the Republic of Moldova and I repeat, we have all the determination to strongly back the Republic of Moldova’s process of approaching EU with faster steps,” said the Romanian official.

As the media did not have access to official meetings, statements made by Comanescu and Stratan fail to provide a clear view of the progress in bilateral relations. Some considered the lack of access a sign that some issues such as border treaties are still taboo subjects.

The Moldovan Foreign minister said the agenda of talks spanned a large number of bilateral issues, but did not specify any in particular. He assured that talks for “solving existing problems” continue.

Meanwhile, Moldovan officials suggested that they were ready to re-start talks on the establishment of new Romanian consulates in the Republic of Moldova. Foreign minister Stratan said that there was a possibility that talks on opening consulates in Balti and Cahul may be held again.

Authorities in Bucharest have been insisting on the opening of two new consulates as the consular sections in Chisinau were unable to deal with the large number of applications from Moldovan citizens.

Comanescu’s visit in Chisinau is the first high-level visit of a Romanian official in the Republic of Moldova after Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu‘s visit in July 2007.

Friday, July 17, 2009Following similar threats by workers at New Fabris and Nortel, workers at JLG in Tonneins, France, threatened to blow up several platform cranes. The JLG factory announced in April 2009 that it will fire 53 of its 163 workers by the end of 2009, while the remaining 110 jobs will not be secure over the next 2 years.

JLG Tonneins was acquired in 2006 with its parent JLG Industries, a maker of aerial work platforms, by the U.S.-based Oshkosh Corporation. Despite being hugely profitable in the past, production has been much reduced since 2008 with the contraction of the construction industry and lower demand for its products. Despite excellent past results the new American management demanded sweeping cuts at the company.

In the view of locals, “the company’s actions are a disgrace given the expensive perks, such as official cars, for its corporate fat cats, compared to the sacrifice, silence, and dignity demanded by the company of those it has made redundant.”

The management offered severance pay of 3,000 (US $4,200), however the workers demanded a severance package commensurate with “the wealth that their labor has generated.” Worker’s delegates requested a “supra-legal” payment of € 30,000, on Thursday 16 of July the management responded with a counter offer of € 16,000. On Thursday night the worker’s actions secured the € 30,000 settlement initially demanded.

Time for a bit of straight talk. Trying to get back together can be a very difficult task for anybody wishing to win back lost love. If you’re looking back,

and wishing you would have stayed with somebody you broke up with, then you should know that you are not alone. Maybe you broke up because you thought things

would be so much better of you went your separate ways, but over time, you came to realize that you made a mistake. There is no guarantee that you will be able

to make a new connection, but the following thoughts will help increase your chances of success.

For starters, remember that you still have your own life to live and that you shouldn’t be missing out on it. Perhaps one of the biggest mistakes in your past

was that you passed by on the opportunities that had presented themselves to you. Avoid making the same mistake. This includes trying to win back lost love.

You can look back and think about what could have been, but do so in a healthy manner, and use it as a way to encourage yourself to take advantage of more

opportunities as they come up.

Of course, this also means that you need to move forward slowly if you are wanting to get out of a current relationship in the hopes of getting back with an

old flame. You need to examine your present situation carefully to see if there are underlying issues that are artificially making the past more attractive.

After that, you need to keep in mind that your former love is likely to have moved on. Now, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try, but at the same time, you

should be realistic about what may or may not happen. There’s a better than average chance that they haven’t thought of you at all over the years, and are

living an entirely new life. You have to at least talk to them to see where they’re at, but be ready to accept whatever happens.

On a related note, you need to also consider the fact that people change over time. Even if you want to win back lost love, and they have thought of you ove

the same years, they may not be the same person you remember. That’s okay, you can still fall in love with each other again. The key is to look forward to the

future and how happy you can be, as opposed to solely focusing on the past and trying to recreate whatever magic you once had.

While you both may be excited, don’t move ahead too quickly. Take some time to catch up with one another, but don’t assume everything will run smoothly. You

oth need to get to know each other again and that will take some time.

Finally, as long as you are being realistic, trying to win back lost love can be a wonderful thing. You two could just hit it off all over again and have a

very happy future together.

NASA celebrated the launch of the first space shuttle Tuesday at an event at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Cape Canaveral, Florida. On April 12, 1981, Space Shuttle Columbia lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center on STS-1, the first space shuttle mission.

NASA held a ceremony commemorating the date outside the hangar, known as Orbiter Processing Facility-1, for Space Shuttle Atlantis, which is being prepped for its final mission which will be STS-135, which will be the last Space Shuttle mission.

At the ceremony, NASA Administrator Charles Bolden announced the locations that would be given the three remaining Space Shuttle orbiters following the end of the Space Shuttle program. The prototype orbiter, Space Shuttle Enterprise would be relocated from the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center at Washington Dulles International Airport to the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in New York City.

Space Shuttle Discovery will take the place of Enterprise at the Udvar-Hazy Center. Discovery has already been retired following the completion of STS-133 last month, its 39th mission. Discovery is undergoing decommissioning and currently being prepped for display by removing toxic materials from the orbiter.

Space Shuttle Endeavour, which will launch on STS-134 at the end of the month on April 29, will be sent to the California Science Center in Los Angeles, California following its retirement. Finally, Atlantis will go on display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex following the orbiter’s last flight which launches June 28.

Columbia was lost tragically back on February 1, 2003 when it disintegrated during re-entry killing all seven astronauts aboard. Space Shuttle Challenger was lost when it exploded 73 seconds after liftoff back on January 28, 1986 killing all six aboard.

“We want to thank all of the locations that expressed an interest in one of these national treasures,” said Bolden to the gathered crowd which contained many KSC employees. “This was a very difficult decision, but one that was made with the American public in mind. In the end, these choices provide the greatest number of people with the best opportunity to share in the history and accomplishments of NASA’s remarkable Space Shuttle Program. These facilities we’ve chosen have a noteworthy legacy of preserving space artifacts and providing outstanding access to U.S. and international visitors.”

Over twenty locations looked to obtain one of the orbiters because of potential tourism booms from them.

This was a very difficult decision, but one that was made with the American public in mind. In the end, these choices provide the greatest number of people with the best opportunity to share in the history and accomplishments of NASA’s remarkable Space Shuttle Program.

Not all were pleased with the final choice of locations. U.S. Senator John Cornyn, Republican from Texas, issued a statement regarding the rejection of Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, Texas as a location. “Like many Texans, I am disappointed with NASA’s decision to slight the Johnson Space Center as a permanent home for one of the Space Shuttle Orbiters. Houston has played a critical role throughout the life of the space shuttle, but it is clear political favors trumped common sense and fairness in the selection of the final locations for the orbiter fleet.”

Cornyn’s statement added, “There is no question Houston should have been selected as a final home for one of the orbiters—even Administrator Bolden stated as much. Today’s announcement is an affront to the thousands of dedicated men and women at Johnson Space Center, the greater Houston community and the State of Texas, and I’m deeply disappointed with the Administration’s misguided decision.” However, the JSC will recieve pilot and commander seats from the flight deck.

The Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington was also proposed as another location for a shuttle, going so far as to build a new building to house an orbiter. In a statement, Governor of Washington Chris Gregoire said, “The Museum of Flight put a tremendous amount of effort into landing a retired shuttle in the Pacific Northwest. As the home of modern day air travel and the 747, which has gracefully transported shuttles for the last 30 years, Seattle would have been a perfect fit. While the Museum of Flight was in the top running, I’m disappointed that NASA did not choose them.

“However, the full fuselage trainer, that every astronaut including [former Museum of Flight CEO] Bonnie Dunbar has been trained on, will soon call the Museum of Flight home. The largest of the trainers, this addition will allow visitors to actually climb aboard the trainer and experience the hands-on training that astronauts get. Visitors will not be allowed in the other shuttles and this trainer is a true win for our dynamic museum. It will help inspire young people to the adventure of space and to the excitement of a career in science, technology, engineering and math.”

Today’s announcement is an affront to the thousands of dedicated men and women at Johnson Space Center, the greater Houston community and the State of Texas, and I’m deeply disappointed with the Administration’s misguided decision.

Other items include various shuttle simulators which will be given to the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, Illinois, the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum of McMinnville, Oregon, and Texas A&M’s Aerospace Engineering Department. The nose cap assembly and crew compartment trainer for the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio and orbital maneuvering system engines for the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, the National Air and Space Museum, and the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum.

NASA is also offering shuttle heat shield tiles to schools and universities that want to share technology and a piece of space history with their students.

The 30th anniversary of the first shuttle mission coincided with the 50th anniversary of the first manned space flight when Yuri Gagarin lifted off aboard Vostok 1 into space.

Last month Microsoft Corporation made accusations against the European Commission, stating that it may cause delays in the final release of their latest operating system, Windows Vista (formerly known as Longhorn).

Microsoft’s general counsel, Brad Smith, stated:

We recognize that the European Commission does not give ‘green lights’ for new products, and we have not asked for one. We appreciate the constructive dialogue we have had with the Commission and the guidance the Commission has provided,” Smith added. Based on this guidance, we have made changes to ensure that we’re in compliance with our competition law obligations.“.

The news should be welcomed by all those anticipating Windows Vista within the European community, with Microsoft showing compliance to follow the regulations set out by the European Commission.

The entire debate started when Microsoft were responding to a letter received by the European Competition Commissioner, Neelie Kroes, that showed concerns over “The possible bundling into Vista of certain products, such as internet search and certain security features that are currently available on a standalone basis from Microsoft and other vendors“. In July, Smith had made a statement that Microsoft had offered to create changes to its system to comply with the commission, and that it had asked the commission to state which changes would make Vista apply to its standards and regulations.

We told the Commission that we would be prepared to do any one of four things and they could simply tell us which of those things they wanted us to do” said Smith.

Since Bill Gates announced the removal of WinFS from its new operating system in October 2003, the company has been plagued by many setbacks and legal issues. Only time will tell whether Brad Smith’s announcement from Microsoft is entirely truthful instead of a way of covering Microsoft’s back.

Dog treats and chews come in diverse sizes, shapes, and types. Some are easy to chew; others challenge your dog. Rawhide bones are a common staple of many dog owners. However, there are natural alternatives to rawhide bones that will satisfy the chewing urges of the toughest dog critic.

Talking AlternativesWhen looking at “natural” dog chews and treats, be sure to have a definition clearly in mind. Remember, just because it says so on the package does not make it true. For some companies, natural may include several chemicals or ingredients with lengthy and unpronounceable names. Several of them they list as preservatives – as good an excuse as many.

While it is possible to weed through the terminology and get lost in what chemicals and other ingredients are safe, sometimes the best approach is to look for simple. When looking at the available natural alternatives to rawhide bones, look at those that feature the least ingredients. Consider the small sample provided below:

  • Antlers – Deer and elk shed them. Your pet may enjoy them. These are tough chews but may be too tough or too sharp for some pets
  • Sweet potatoes – Some dogs love; others reject. Check to see which category your canine falls into
  • Bones – Dog lovers are in 3 camps about bones.

    * Those who never feed their dogs bones – too dangerous* Those who argue raw bones are best* Those who believe basted bones are better – easier to digest

In all cases, the right types of bones (large-animal) do provide a challenge and enormous pleasure to canines of all sizes

  • Animal Skins – Some companies take the skin of a pig or other animal, bake it and make it into a chewable, edible and highly digestive product

Natural Alternatives To Rawhide Bones

There are many natural alternatives to rawhide bones. Go online. Do the research and purchase something healthy your dog can chew with relish.
